2015, ANOTHER RECORD BREAKING YEAR!

Thanks to our amazing sponsors and participants the Annual Merle Derochie Invitational tournament raised over $56,000 in 2015! 

The Park Derochie Social Fund was once again able donate to Sport Central, The Alberta Firefighters Burn Camp, the Hope Mission – Kids in Action program, the CNIB – Youth Transitions and Employment Support department & the Edmonton Poppy Fund. Due to the overwhelming generosity we were able to increase donations to some of these organizations and add an additional recipient, KidSport to the list of deserving community causes. Park Derochie Bursaries and Employee Emergency Funds were also provided where need arose.

 

Registration and sponsorship opportunities for the 2016 Tournament will in the new year. All Park Derochie employees, suppliers and invited guests interested in participating may do so by visiting the Sponsorship or Register pages. The tournament will take place at the Broadmoor Public Golf Course in Sherwood Park on Saturday, June 25th, with a shotgun start at 2:00 pm.

  Sport Central Amount: $15,000

Park Derochie has been a proud supporter of Sport Central, formerly, the Brick Sport Central, since 2009. In 2015 the Park Derochie Social Fund was once again happy to donate the amount of $10,000 to this organization, with Park Derochie Inc. equally matching that amount. In addition, RBC Wealth Management also donated $5000 directly to Sport Central in conjunction with the Merle Derochie Invitational Golf Tournament for a total of $25,000 gifted to Sport Central this year.

Sport Central gives children in need access to sport equipment and the opportunity to participate in their chosen sport by gathering, recycling and redistributing equipment to those children who would not otherwise have these opportunities.

  KidSport Amount: $10,000

Organized sports have gotten increasingly expensive, preventing some children from the opportunity to play. KidSport provides children a way around these financial barriers. Raising funds, promoting their mission to community agencies and advocating the importance of giving all children access to sports programs are a few of the ways this organization benefits our community.

The Park Derochie Social Committee is proud to donate $10,000 to KidSport this year to help in their efforts to allow children to experience organized sports.

  Alberta Fire Fighters Burn Camp Amount: $10,000  


The Park Derochie Social Fund is proud to announce that for the fourth year in a row a donation of $10,000 has been made to the Alberta Firefighters Burn Camp. 

This camp gives young burn survivors an opportunity to spend time with other burn survivors, create a support network and become friends while enjoying their time swimming, hiking, rafting, and exploring the outdoors.

  Hope Mission - Kids in Action Program Amount: $10,500  


The Hope Mission Kids in Action program is an after school program that ensures children receive a nutritious meal and provides entertainment and mentorship for children in need. It costs approximately $1,500 for each child to participate in this program for the year. Thanks to generous sponsors this year the Park Derochie Social Fund was once again able to donate $10,500, providing funding for ten children in need.

  CNIB - Youth Transitions & Employment Support Amount: $7,500  


There is a large percentage of unemployment among blind or partially sighted individuals, and the job skills training provided by CNIB in the areas of resume writing, interview preparation, direction in technological accommodations and researching employers open to hire individuals with disabilities help these individuals with goal setting, independence and confidence in the ever-evolving workforce. 

Due to the generosity of at this year's tournament, the Park Derochie Social Fund proudly increased their donation from $5,000 in 2014 to $7,500 in 2015 for the CNIB - Youth Transitions & Employment Support department to aid in empowering these individuals with the necessary skills and opportunities to successfully find employment.

  Red Cross Cross - Fort McMurray Fires Appeal Amount: $2,500  


Sadden by the tragic Fort McMurray Wild Fires the Park Derochie Social Fund donated $2,500 to the Canadian Red Cross Wildfires Appeal to aid all those affected.

Due to the overwhelming generosity of its donors the Red Cross continues to provide vital assistance to the people of Fort McMurray. Cash cards, vouchers, shelter, transportation, cleaning kits, hygiene kits, and registration services are only a few examples of what the people from Alberta, Canada and around the world have made possible.

  Edmonton Poppy Fund Amount: $2,000  


The Park Derochie Social Fund once again donated $2,000 to the Edmonton Poppy Fund in remembrance of the services offered by valiant Canadians.

The Legion Poppy Fund of Edmonton supports ex-service personnel and their families with dental and eye care, medical equipment, prescriptions, shelter, clothing and other assistance as needed.

  Educational Bursaries Amount: $7,500 

Each year Park Derochie Educational Bursaries are awarded to individuals who show exemplary leadership, community/school involvement, educational & career goals and academic achievement. The number of bursaries awarded each year are subject to the budget and discretion of the Park Derochie Social Committee, reliant solely on funds raised at the Merle Derochie Invitational Golf Tournament. 

Bursaries are awarded in February of the year following the tournament.

  Employee Emergency Fund Recipients Amount: $4,000  

The Park Derochie Employee Emergency Fund is a fund to assist employees who may be experiencing unexpected financial hardship for a variety of reasons. Assistance may be requested by a Park Derochie employee for themselves or for a co-worker in need. The recipients are kept strictly confidential.

This year thanks to our generous sponsors we were able to give aid to PD employees in the amount of $4,000.
