2014, OUR BEST YEAR YET!

Become a Sponsor

Thanks to our amazing sponsors the Annual Merle Derochie Invitational tournament raised over $44,000 at our 2014 event. Participants enjoyed a beautiful sunny day of golf and good company in support of our community.

Due to this overwhelming generosity the Park Derochie Social Fund was once again able to donate to Sport Central, The Alberta Firefighters Burn Camp, the Hope Mission – Kids in Action program, the CNIB – Youth Transitions and Employment Support department and the Edmonton Poppy Fund as well as provide for its Park Derochie Bursaries and Employee Emergency Fund. Additionally, thanks to the 2014 contribution, Ava’s Army also received support.

Registration and sponsorship opportunities for the 2015 Tournament will open soon. All Park Derochie employees, suppliers and invited guests interested in participating may do so by visiting the Sponsorship or Register pages. The tournament will take place at the Broadmoor Public Golf Course in Sherwood Park on Saturday, June 27th, with a shotgun start at 2:00 pm.

We look forward to working with you in donating even more to our community in 2015!

  Sport Central Amount: $10,000

Park Derochie has been a proud supporter of Sport Central, formerly, the Brick Sport Central, since 2009. Due to the success of the 2014 Merle Derochie Invitational Golf Tournament the Park Derochie Social Fund was once again happy to donate the amount of $10,000 to this organization. With Park Derochie Inc. equally matching that amount, a total of $20,000 was gifted to Sport Central this year.

Sport Central gives children in need access to sport equipment and the opportunity to participate in their chosen sport by gathering, recycling and redistributing equipment to those children who would not otherwise have these opportunities.

For more information regarding Sport Central or to get involved visit http://www.sportcentral.org/

Alberta Fire Fighters Burn Camp Amount: $10,000

The Park Derochie Social Fund is proud to announce that for the third year in a row a donation of $10,000 has been made to the Alberta Firefighters Burn Camp.

This camp gives young burn survivors an opportunity to spend time with other burn survivors, create a support network and become friends while enjoying their time swimming, hiking, rafting, and exploring the outdoors.

Hope Mission - Kids in Action Program Amount: $10,500

The Hope Mission Kids in Action program is an after school program that ensures children receive a nutritious meal and provides entertainment and mentorship for children in need. It costs approximately $1,500 for each child to participate in this program for the year. Thanks to generous sponsors this year the Park Derochie Social Fund was able to increase their donation from $6,000 in 2013 to $10,500 in 2014, providing funding for ten children in need.

CNIB - Youth Transitions & Employment Support Amount: $5,000

There is a large percentage of unemployment among blind or partially sighted individuals, and the job skills training provided by CNIB in the areas of resume writing, interview preparation, direction in technological accommodations and researching employers open to hire individuals with disabilities help these individuals with goal setting, independence and confidence in the ever-evolving workforce.

Once again, thanks to generous sponsors, the Park Derochie Social Fund proudly donated $5,000 to the CNIB - Youth Transitions & Employment Support department to aid in empowering these individuals with the necessary skills and opportunities to successfully find employment.

  Edmonton Poppy Fund Amount: $2,000

The Park Derochie Social Fund donated $2,000 to the Edmonton Poppy Fund in remembrance of the services offered by valiant Canadians.

The Legion Poppy Fund of Edmonton supports ex-service personnel and their families with dental and eye care, medical equipment, prescriptions, shelter, clothing and other assistance as needed.

  Ava's Army Amount: $1,000

Ava Hadfield is a young girl who was diagnosed with a very rare brain tumor, called a ganglioglioma, in 2012. She has undergone numerous operations and treatments to try and combat this tumor but the outlook is not promising.

Brought to our attention by an employee, who is a close family friend and has worked with Ava's father in the past, the Park Derochie Social Fund donated $1,000 to Ava's Army to help cover costs in hopes that her parents will be able to spend as much time as possible with her.

  Educational Bursaries Amount: $2,000

Each year Park Derochie Educational Bursaries are awarded to individuals who show exemplary leadership, community/school involvement, educational & career goals and academic achievement. The number of bursaries awarded each year are subject to the budget and discretion of the Park Derochie Social Committee, reliant solely on funds raised at the Merle Derochie Invitational Golf Tournament.

This year we are proud to announce we were able to award all two eligible applicants a bursary of $1,000 each.

Employee Emergency Fund Recipients Amount: $1,000

The Park Derochie Employee Emergency Fund is a fund to assist employees who may be experiencing unexpected financial hardship for a variety of reasons. Assistance may be requested by a Park Derochie employee for themselves or for a co-worker in need. The recipients are kept strictly confidential.

This year only only one employee was in need of this fund, and thanks to generous sponsors we were able to aid this employee in the amount of $1,000.
